The Cross and the Resurrection

26 Mar 2025, by Nate Crandall in Newsletter

Nothing is more central to the Bible than Jesus’ death and resurrection. The entire Bible pivots on one weekend in Jerusalem about two thousand years ago. Attempts to make sense of the Bible that do not give prolonged thought to integrating the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus are doomed to failure.” (D.A. Carson, Scandalous: The Cross and Resurrection of Jesus)

Over the past few years I have increasingly felt led to emphasize, celebrate, and magnify that weekend in Jerusalem. The Lord has impressed on my heart that we needed to make more of a big deal of the cross and the resurrection than we had been as a church. Carson’s quote pinpoints the reason why. If we are going to grasp the Bible, we need to give prolonged thought to the cross and the resurrection. We need to set aside time every year to allow the Holy Spirit to speak to us the realities of the cross and the resurrection that we have not yet fully understood. In short, we need to make this weekend a
big deal because it is the biggest deal!

This year we are adding the experience of celebrating the Passover to our remembrance of the cross and the resurrection. The Passover prophesied of the Lord’s sacrifice on the cross, and as we experience it, I know that the Lord will give us greater insight into his glorious plan for our redemption. It was during the Passover celebration that the Lord instituted the Lord’s Supper, and as we share in the meal, participate in the traditions, and hear the words of the Haggadah, I know that we will be blessed even more as we remember Christ’s death and resurrection. I encourage you to consider coming to the Passover Seder on Thursday night, April 17th. You can find more details in the article by Renee Sanford on the next page of this newsletter entitled, “Celebrate the Passover with Your Church Family.”

I hope that you clear your schedule so that this year you can experience the impact of the cross and the resurrection in a new way.
