1. Hearing and Receiving the Gospel and Scripture As It Really Is (v.13)

APPLICATION: For the power of God to be working in and through us, we must receive it for what it is.

2. Responding to the Message of Salvation: Imitation (v.14)

APPLICATION: We can't respond rightly to a message from God we received wrongly.

3. Receiving and Responding Wrongly Yields Wrath (v.14-16)

CRITICAL POINT: If we are trying to recognize God in our world, we can be certain that God does not ever use methods that contradict His revealed nature or His Word as a baseline.

APPLICATION: If our reception of the Word of God has been limited or partial or the Word has been a tool we have used to achieve our own purposes or to manipulate others, we should repent of that immediately.

In the midst of trials, it is tempting to take the easy way out by watering down the truth of the gospel message. Faithful believers prove themselves to be trustworthy messengers by holding onto the full weight and consequence of the gospel. Faithful leaders are careful to protect the integrity of the gospel while gently giving of themselves for the sake of the body of Christ. 1 Thessalonians 2:1-8. Neil Lubke

It would be easy to dwell on the past and fail to recognize that God is actively doing work in this church and moving us forward into his next plans for us. Past victories or failures can blind us to God’s present work. Sometimes we cling to the old so tightly that we miss the new thing God is doing, but God is not finished with us yet! Pastor Liz Green
