Praying For The Global Church
30 Jan 2024, by Newsletter inIn Revelation 7 we are assured that one day people from every tribe and nation will join together in one accord to worship the LORD (“After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands, and crying out with a loud voice, “Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!”)
In our day, in our time, God is growing His amazing world-wide church–filled with peoples from many ethnicities, many languages and cultures, all worshipping His holy name. Until the fulfillment of the Revelation 7 vision, Let us join n in prayer for the global church.
LORD, keep your global church true to the biblical gospel.
Raise up leaders, strong in their faith, to guide and serve the body of Christ.
Strengthen the church – as local bodies of Christ and as individuals, to live holy lives and, as true
disciples, to boldly share the gospel.
Send forth field workers to the harvest field, giving them opportunities to show Jesus’ love and speak the wonderful words of life.
Protect and encourage believers facing persecution in places like North Korea, China, Nigeria, Pakistan, Afghanistan.
Open the way for your word to reach people who don’t have the Bible in their native language.
Let the unreached peoples encounter you, LORD, in miraculous ways.
Provide political leadership and social environments allowing unreached people groups freedom to hear and accept the gospel.
Provide support for Wycliffe Bible Translators, Joshua Project, Open Doors and others engaged in the long-term work of training & equipping believers to support persecuted Christians and take the gospel to the unreached.
Show us our part in the Great Commission (“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.”) both as individuals and as a church.
Guide us and give us wisdom and humility when deciding what actions to take.
May we boldly pursue the works you have prepared in advance for us to do.
These prayers are not new ones! In the Psalm 117, the psalmist prays “Praise the LORD, all nations! Extol him, all peoples!” We can sing out this prayer in Isaac Watts 1719 hymn
From all that dwell below the skies,
Let the Creator’s praise arise;
Let the Redeemer’s name be sung
Through ev’ry land by ev’ry tongue.
