More Prayer for Our Community
31 Jan 2022, by Newsletter inHow can we serve our community and the people around us? We can love our community through prayer! As Christ followers, we have the authority, privilege and ability to radically influence our home towns. Every problem, every need, every moment we live, we walk with the presence of the indwelling, crucified, risen and TRIUMPHANT Lord of the universe!
And He has given us clear guidance to pray – and promises that our prayers will be effective:
1 Timothy 2:1-2 – I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people – for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.
Jeremiah 29:7 – (as sojourners on earth) – Seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you…and pray to the LORD on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare.
Genesis 12:2 – (as members of Abraham’s family) – I will bless you and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonors you I will curse, and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.
Proverbs 11:10-11 – When it goes well with the righteous, the city rejoices…by the blessing of the upright a city is exalted.
2 Chronicles 7:14 – if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.
James 5:16 – The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.
John 14:13-14 – And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.
John 15:16 – You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit – fruit that will last – and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you.
We can pray with holy expectation!
Let us join together to pray for God to bring salvation to the lost around us and to guide our leaders in making God-honoring decisions.
As we obey by praying, let us listen for how he wants us to respond. How can we as individuals and a church body minister to the lost, hurting, confused people we live among. How can we be part of someone else’s salvation story?
