Jan Teat and our Local Q Place

25 Sep 2022, by Linda Lyke in Newsletter

Jan Teat has been an encourager, problem solver, prayer warrior and mentor for our church’s Q Place group for seven years now. Melissa Lade, Shanny Snyder and Linda Lyke were trained by Jan in 2017 and since then she has been sup-porting our church in this evangelistic discipleship effort.

From June through September this year, our local Q Place group took place at the Milton YMCA. They listed the group on their web site under “Spiritual Fitness” along with their other physical fitness classes. A number of ladies attended in person and also online; that was a new element for our group to offer both options at the same time. New seasons, new challenges.

These women are experiencing real losses and are seeking God in this safe non-judgmental discussion group. The Milton YMCA was a neutral space in the community to host our group. If you have a connection to the Milton YMCA, please say thanks for letting us partner with them. It was a great experience!

You Are Making This Possible

by Jan Teat

Whenever I have a follow-up meeting with people who went through one of my Q Place Coaching groups, I’m so encouraged by how God is working! I also love to see how God works through connections over time and multiplies his disciples. You are making this possible through your sup-port, encouragement, and prayers. Thank you!

In June, my Q Place mentor and friend Martha Reapsome passed away. She was a strong, faithful supporter of Q Place even after retiring and we always knew that she was praying for us. She is deeply missed. One of Martha’s re-cent prayers was Romans 15:13. May this verse also encourage you: May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of his Holy Spirit. (Romans 15:13)

When Gordon and Nancy, from Ontario, came to my Q Place Coaching group in January 2021, they were
already serious about starting a group with seekers. They had been practicing the 9 Arts of Spiritual Conversations since 2019 when they learned about the 9 Arts at a conference.

In fact, they had also taken a group from their church through the 9 Arts so they would all grow in reaching out to those who don’t yet have a relationship with Jesus. In the process they brought the 9 Arts practices into their everyday lives – noticing, praying, listening, asking good questions – and neighbors have become friends.

So, after Gordon and Nancy went through my 7-session Q Place Coaching group, it was only a matter of months before they started a group in their neighborhood! Their group met periodically all last fall and winter, discussing life and God. The group took a break for the summer, and yet conversations have continued as Gordon and Nancy have invited neighbors over for meals and visits.

Now their friends are eager to get started again with their group – and this time Gordon and Nancy plan to bring in our short Bible discussion guides that help with times of crisis and uncertainty.

Please pray for their group as they start discussing the Bible! Gordon feels the time is right to invite his golfing friends to join them. And a couple from another church wants to come and experience their Q Place group!

Recently Gordon and Nancy also connected their church with our Thriving Groups Workshop, and 15 came! This 3-hour training helps Christians get familiar with Q Place’s Scripture discussion-based approach in their own small groups. This fills a need right now in many churches and helps more Christians understand how these groups work. We believe that God will use this pathway to bring many more Christians into our 7-session Q Place Coaching groups so they will also start groups with neighbors, like Gordon and Nancy have. They are leading the way for many others to grow in sharing Jesus through their everyday lives!

Nancy recently said, “Q Place has been good for me. It helps me know how to bring God into the situation. It has encouraged me to share my faith with others.”

Thank you, Milton SDB Church, for partnering in this exciting work!

In Christ’s love,
Jan Teat
