Camp Wakonda: This Year’s Model
26 Mar 2024, by Newsletter inWe need this property as a pasture for boys and girls.”
Pastor Elmo Fitz Randolph, 1950
When Pastor Randy approached Mr. and Mrs. Richard Wegner in the spring of 1950 with hopes to purchase their property on Klug road for the purpose of creating a camp, Mr. Wegner first responded that he needed the pasture for his sheep. Pastor Randy replied, “We need this property as a pasture for boys and girls.” Since that moment, generations of boys and girls have been fed by the shepherd of their souls at Camp Wakonda.
For the last 74 years, the Lord has done marvelous work in the hearts of children and adults alike, and we look forward to what God has in store for us this coming year with great anticipation. So here’s the skinny on camp.
Once again we will hold two overnight camps, Intermediate for grades 4-6 and Collision for grades 7-12, and Camp Discover for one week in the afternoon for grades K-3. Registration information will be available on the church webpage and at the Welcome Center beginning on Sabbath, April 6th. Staff applications for all camps are also available. Without our awesome counselors, our camps would not happen.
Please help get the word out!
This April we hope to have our new camp stove installed along with the renovations to the kitchen! Praise the Lord!! Special thanks go to Pastor John for spearheading this project and for all of those who have helped to make it a reality! If you have any questions about it, please ask Pastor John.
Our spring camp work day is scheduled for May 5th from 11 a.m.- 4 p.m. Please come and serve to make sure that Camp Wakonda is ready to go for the summer ministry season.
Finally, check out the prayer requests for camp and start praying! God has great things planned for this summer, and we get to be part of it. Let’s pray for the Good Shepherd to do great work in the hearts and lives of all our campers.
